Frequently Asked

Questions about mold remediation.

What should I do to prepare for the treatment?

The home needs to be vacant while we treat it, so plan somewhere for you and your pets to be for the day.

A few days before the appointment we send a confirmation with the preparation list. It is short: open every closet, close the windows, and leave your belongings where they are.

Do I need to take paintings and wall art down first?

No. The vapor is dry, and we have not had a problem with wall art, paintings, or electronics.

If there is a piece you would rather not take chances with, take it down or throw a blanket over it. Plenty of people do.

What about fruit or other food left out in the kitchen?

Put fruit and vegetables in a zip-lock bag or the refrigerator for the day so they keep their taste.

How long before I can go back into my home?

The same day. Most homes are treated in a single day, and the treatment itself typically takes a few hours, depending on the size of the house, the outdoor temperature, and whether the windows can be opened afterward.

You may notice a faint smell when you get back. It fades quickly.

What is actually in the treatment?

The active component of the sterilant is on the EPA's Safer Chemical Ingredients List. After treatment it breaks down into acetic acid, which is white vinegar, plus oxygen and water.

If you want to read the product documentation before you book, ask and we will send it.

Do I need to move everything out of the house?

No, and we would rather you did not. Mold spores settle into fabric, furniture, clothing, and mattresses, so those things need treating too. Leave them in place, and tell us about any brass items so we can plan around them.

Will it get behind my walls?

The patented process creates a particle about 7.5 microns across, small enough to stay airborne and travel with the air into wall cavities.

Where we know there is a problem inside a wall cavity, we drill a few one-eighth-inch holes between the studs and treat behind the wall directly.

Will I have to clean everything afterward?

No. The vapor leaves nothing you can see or feel, so there's nothing to wipe down.

Does it treat insects?

No. The product isn't registered as a pesticide, so we don't use it for insects.

What will the mold look like after the treatment?

Treatment does not remove staining. The marks mold leaves behind stay until somebody cleans them off.

We can clean them for a small additional cost, or you can do it yourself once the treatment is finished.

How long does it last?

That depends on whether the moisture problem is fixed. Where the water issue is resolved and only minor humidity or window condensation remains, the antimicrobial protectant keeps working for a long time.

Where a major water problem is still active, expect around 90 days of protection and no more. This is why we look for the moisture source before we treat anything.
